Although most rational and normal twenty-one-year old university grads would quite rightly spend this baking hot summer of 2018 in pubs and enjoying the unbelievable and unexpected success of the English football team, working for Plenum has been surprising and exceeded my expectations.
Throughout my summer internship at Plenum, the small team has constantly been approachable, friendly and dynamic. My colleagues Simon, TC, Jackie and Ollie have not only made the office environment tremendously fun and relaxing but have always been keen to offer advice or constructively discuss new hires and solutions for day-to-day challenges.
My first few days at Plenum were getting an education on the highly complex and ever evolving financial world. Although I have had some grounding in Investment Banks from my previous experiences, it was certainly eye opening to learn and consider companies I had never heard of and the various businesses Plenum typically hire for.
After this invaluable grounding, I quickly learned that to make the most of my internship headhunting, one needed to jump-in head first and learn through experience. For those who are not keen to be micro-managed and spoon-fed, this is the right organisation. Learning on my feet and developing my own personal strategies to make new hires is certainly the best and only way for anyone to learn - provided they have some resilience, aptitude and dedication!
Headhunting itself is a fast-paced job and incredibly people orientated, As my time at Plenum draws to an end, I have certainly learnt about what industry-leading firms like to hire and value, key developments within the industry, new roles and positions that interest me, what constitutes a fantastic CV, built up a raft of connections and so much more.
Besides with still a hefty chunk of time between now and my return to the University of Exeter in September – thank goodness! Interning with Plenum has been an invaluable experience. In my eyes, it’s a no-brainer for anyone ambitious and interested in headhunting and financial services or without a clear picture of what they want to do. So, get on-board, you may just find that headhunting is the job you’ve always been looking for.
